Percival is respectful to the king and those who visit him. He remains calm when dealing with hot-headed nobles who demand to personally speak with Queen Estellise. His drunken side is the exact opposite, transforming him into a loud-mouthed, obnoxious, grandiose, possibly insane man who struts around in nothing other than a robe.
Percival “Percy” Pringle is the son of Paul Pringle, who served as the previous steward to the reigning monarch of Vesperia. After his father’s passing, a 22-year old Percival became the steward to King Edward Conterat. Several years later, after King Edward’s passing, Percival became the steward to the young King Tostig.
Hidden somewhere in this seemingly simple past, Percival somehow became friends with the Archdevil Mephistopheles. In addition, it has been discovered that he was once an extremely powerful monk, said to be the greatest in the world, before the Order of the Silver Hammer sealed away most of his power as part of an agreement.
Steward to King Tostig
Percival, having earned the nickname of “Percy” by Tostig when the King was a young child, acted as the steward to the new king and his wife, Judith. He also acted as an adviser during the Revolt of the Snakes and was one of the few courtiers to avoid the king’s purge. With the rebellion now over, Percival remains Tostig’s steward. He speaks with visitors since the King rarely dares to do so himself. He harbors no ill feelings towards the king despite his rather heavy orders and always treats guests with courtesy no matter what their behavior may be.
Steward to King Carth and Queen Estellise
After King Tostig’s assassination, Percival remained steward and served the newly-crowned Estellise and her consort, Carth Greyson. During this time, he was revealed to have once been a powerful monk and associates with Mephistopheles.
Battles Against the Cult of Cthulhu and New Light
Percival was captured by the Cult of Cthulhu on January 10, 875 C.E. when they assaulted the palace. He was brought to a dungeon far below the earth since he was seen as the most troublesome. Two months into his imprisonment, he caught one of his captor’s arms and snapped off a finger, using the bone as a lockpick. Following his jailbreak, he murderized all Cult of Cthulhu members he saw and freed Rita Mordio from prison. Estellise returned several days later and informed them of what happened to Carth.
Percival helped Estelle keep Vesperia standing for the next three years. Using what combat experience he could call upon, he fought whenever it was necessary, such as when assassins from either the New Light of Cult of Cthulhu tried invading the castle. He retrieved Aelar tu Ash when things began to become worse for Vesperia. Despite having a favor from Mephistopheles, Percival has yet to conduct the proper ritual needed to summon the Archdevil, as it would likely cause an uproar amongst various clergies, reveal his secret past, and takes too much time for him to do without disregarding his duties for Vesperia.
Percival has a wife of his own and two children, all of whom help around the palace. He was close with the king and was one of the very few people who Tostig trusts. As steward to King Carth and Queen Estellise, he retains his friendly demeanor, and entertains the latter with (occasionally horrifying) tales of his travels while she deals with running Vesperia. Apparently, he is good friends with the Archdevil Mephistopheles, Lord of the Eighth and Master of Hellfire.
